Today was our first workout of the year. 8x1k's on the grass fields. There's something about running on the long uncut grass that just takes it out of your legs. Regardless, I felt great during the workout.
Start of the year workouts are a great indication. They can let you know what you've been doing right, and what you should've done. It's always a clear divider of the have's and the have not's. Those who have run vs. those who have not.
Prior to the start of the workout, I felt myself wishing I was back in June. That I could get another shot at the summer training. Regretting the easy days and wanting to throw in more workouts. But, at this point, there's no way I can go back. I have to go full steam ahead with everything I do. So I laced up my flats and hit the ground (grass) running.
After the cool down, I went back to the locker room and took an ice bath, stretched and did core. One of the reasons I think I started to fade near the end of track season was due to me not taking care of my body. I'm now trying to do everything I can to ensure that my body is in the best condition possible. I'm not trying to say I won't be sore, that comes with the sport, I just want to be able to put my best effort in and day out. Those extra 15 minutes you take every day are going to be the difference between you and your competition. You have to be willing to go the extra mile in every aspect of your life.
Tomorrow is a recovery day. Let's keep this rolling.
I'm going to start a mile counter on this since the start of the blog.
Miles to Date - 20.
