The Beginning

So day 1 of my first year running in uniform is in the books.

Today was our start of the year meeting where we're told about everything we can take and not take, how to get help from our training room staff, and various other things about being an athlete.

I think it's awesome that as a runner there's a huge support network of people who's goal is just to see you do well. I didn't really have that in high school so it's cool to see them here at Poly.

The entire returning squad minus a few showed up for the meeting including some newcomers. The girls have a lot of talent in and hopes are high for them to do well at conference. The men's team is hoping to continue their streak of conference titles and trips to nationals which will not be an easy task. I feel as though we're all up to the task and ready to go.

This summer has been comparable to an arms race. Everyone has been gearing up and ready to go. The general feeling is that no one on the top seven is safe. Runners like myself are attempting to justify that feeling.

We start our first workout tomorrow which will be 10 x 1k's on the grass field. After a terrible time running last summer, I grew to fear the grass fields. I now find myself eagerly anticipating the workout and the ability to push myself.

This summer helped me understand a lot more about my running and I feel as though I am now ready more than last year to take on the ranks of collegiate running.

The goal of this blog is to illustrate the life of a collegiate distance runner and the people involved. I hope that through my writing I can find myself more honest and understanding of the sport and that readers can have some questions answered or just be entertained.

...and here we go!
